Joint pain due to arthritis and other reasons can be reduced and cured by making small changes in the diet and lifestyle of the affected person. Many of  the remedies are inexpensive and do not have side effects like allopathic medicines.

By reducing the fat in the diet, the nutrient supply to the joint increases and the pain reduces. Beta Carotene (Vitamin A) found in carrots , papayas acts as an antioxidant and neutralizes the free radicals  which damage the joints. Vitamins C, B6, E and zinc help in the repair of connective tissues. Vitamin E also prevents muscle wasting and prevents inflammation of  the joint.  This vitamin is found naturally in wheat germ, tomatoes and nuts.  Selenium which is found in almonds, oranges and barley also acts as an antioxidant.

Essential fatty acid are contained in  fish oil, evening primrose oil,  flaxseed oil, borage oil, black currant seed oil, and increase the production of  anti-inflammatory prostaglandins.  Many fish also contain Omega-3 fatty acid, which is effective in reducing joint pain due to arthritis. Glucosamine is believed to help in the repair of cartilage and prevent further damage to the joint. Shark cartilage also help in reduction of pain. Grape seed extract reduces inflammation.

Many people have found that Apple Cider vinegar is a remedy for joint pain.  It is acidic and can cause damage to the teeth enamel, so it should not be taken directly. It should be mixed with baking soda, mixed with apple , grape juice, honey and tea. Organic and commercial brands are available.

Patients of  arthritis should avoid hot, sweets, spicy and friend foods. Beverages like tea, coffee, colas and alcohol should also be avoided. Antibiotics, steroids and nicotine will also have harmful side effects.
